WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Competition continued in the Carolina region of ITA Regionals on Saturday, with several Tigers battling in hard-fought matches and earning key victories.
Lana Sipek came out on top of the consolation bracket, beating three opponents to earn the crown. Her final victory was against Wake Forest’s Madeleine Lynch, won by a score of 6-3, 7-5.
Jenna Thompson and Samantha Buyckx fell in an extremely tight match, 8-7 (5) in the semifinal of the doubles consolation bracket. The doubles pairs of Eleni Louka and Ali DeSpain and Daniella Medvedeva and Cristina Mayorova each dropped their matches this afternoon after strong starts to their weekend, winning two matches apiece.
Alexandra Anttila will compete in the semifinals of the B Draw against South Carolina’s Chloe Narboni at 9 a.m. on Sunday, while Thompson will look to advance to the finals in the Main Draw consolation field in her semifinal match against South Carolina’s Ana Cruz, also at 9 a.m.
