Clemson Sweeps Fordham, 4-0, and Mercer, 7-0 for Clean Friday Slate

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson Women’s Tennis team (8-1) took care of business on Friday, sweeping both Fordham (3-2), 4-0, and Mercer (1-6), 7-0. The Tigers are now 6-0 at home on the year and have won the last five in a row. 

Clemson 4, Fordham 0

Kicking the day off on doubles, Amelie Smejkalova and Gaia Parravicini opened up the scoring for the Tigers in a swift 6-3 win over Nevena Kolarevic and Julianne Nguyen. In a comeback win on court two, Romana Cisovska and Candela Yecora secured the doubles point for Clemson over Lorraine Bergmann and Lily Chitambar 6-4. On court three, Annabelle Davis and Sophia Hatton were up 6-5 when the match was abandoned.

In singles, Candela Yecora swiftly defeated Aya Matsunaga 6-2, 6-1 on court six. In a similarly swift fashion, Hatton extended the lead for the Tigers over Julianne Nguyen 6-0, 6-2. 

Shortly after, Cisovska clinched the match for Clemson with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Paola Dalmonico. On courts two, four, and five the matches were left unfinished with Smejkalova up 6-3, 4-3 over Bergmann, Artemis Aslanishvili up 7-6 (7-0) over Chitambar, and Catalina Padilla up 6-3, 2-2 over Parravicini.

Clemson 7, Mercer 0

In doubles, Parravicini and Smejkalova took care of business in a 6-1 win over Marie Bannmeyer and Dzhastina Mikhnova of Mercer. The court two doubles pair of Yecora and Cisovska defeated Marina Quinones and Ines Homberg, 6-3, to take the doubles point for Clemson. On court three, Annabelle Davis and Sophia Hatton were up 5-3 when the match was left unfinished.

In singles, Yecora opened up the scoring with a straight sweep of Kennedi Jones 6-0, 6-0. To extend the lead, Cisovska defeated Mikhnova 6-3, 6-0 quickly followed by Parravicini on court five in a commanding 6-0, 6-2 win over Jelena Gojkovic to secure the match for the Tigers.

Aslanisvili shutdown Bannmeyer on court four with a 6-2, 6-0 victory. To close out the match, Davis defeated Tea Zivic 6-2, 6-2 to complete the sweep for Clemson.
