Student Opportunities with Clemson Athletics

The Clemson University Athletic Department (CUAD) strives to grow people and community by creating life-changing experiences through Athletics. In alignment with the University’s bold strategic goal to enhance the #1 student experience, the CUAD provides numerous opportunities each year for students who are looking for experiential learning opportunities and/or are aspiring to be sports professionals. Being a part of the CUAD gives students the opportunity to work alongside some of the finest full-time professionals in the business, build relationships with other students with similar interests and aspirations, and experience defining moments in their lives and in the history of Clemson University.

What types of student opportunities does the CUAD offer?

Opportunities to participate as student-athletes are well documented and understood. Other opportunities for students to participate in the Clemson University Athletics Department (CUAD), however, are not as clear. Similar to student-athletes, others students participating in the CUAD are under the direction of and receive instruction from a full-time staff member.

Outside of being a Student-Athlete and/or a fan, the CUAD offers 3 different types of opportunities for Clemson students to participate within the department and enhance their collegiate experience:

  1. Student-Internships: These are volunteer positions designed to enable students to complete degree requirements and/or develop an initial behind the scenes understanding of operations with the CUAD. It is expected that Student-Interns are first and foremost successful students. To that end, staff supervisors are charged with emphasizing the academic success of student-interns, serving as mentors to students under their supervision, and providing them with supplemental learning opportunities through their internships.
  2. Student-Assistantships: These are scholarship positions designed to enable students to embed within a specific program or support area and develop a comprehensive understanding of operations within that area. Similar to Student-Interns, it is expected that Student-Assistants are first and foremost successful students. To that end, staff supervisors are charged with emphasizing the academic success of Student-Assistants, serving as mentors to students under their supervision, and providing them with supplemental learning opportunities through their assistantships.
  3. Student-Employment: These are paid positions designed to ensure a specific function of the department’s operations is fulfilled. Similar to Student-Interns and Student-Assistants, Student-Employees will also be supervised and mentored by full-time staff members who will support their development. Successful performance in these roles is essential for continued employment.

How do I navigate this page?

This page is designed for students at Clemson University in an effort to enhance their overall student experience. While potential students at Clemson may review and apply for these opportunities, only enrolled students at Clemson may fill the positions listed on this page.

Opportunities are organized into 2 sections and listed by 1. sports and 2. support areas. Inside the position title you should be able to identify into which of the 3 types of student opportunities (internships, assistantships, & employment) the specific position falls. You will see details about the position and how to apply for the opportunity by clicking on the position title.  Should you still have questions about a specific opportunity, you should contact the individual listed within the position description.

The following suggestions may be helpful as you navigate this page:

  • Only graduate students may apply for and gain opportunities as Graduate Assistants. Graduate students can, however, apply for other opportunities not listed as Graduate Assistantships.
  • If you are looking for a specific type of opportunity, be sure to note the position type in the position title or within the position’s description.
  • If you do not see a specific type of opportunity listed within a sport and/or support area tab, then it is likely not currently offered.
  • If you are interested in an internship that is currently not listed, then you should contact CUAD Administration.
  • If an application is not active and there is no explanation (e.g., “Not currently accepting applications”), then you should contact CUAD Administration.
  • If you have submitted an application and have not received a response within 2 weeks of submission, then you should contact CUAD Administration.

Note: Some positions are listed as Internships/Assistantships. Students often begin as Student-Interns in these areas, as they determine fit and interest in committing to a more formal Student-Assistant role.
