CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson women’s tennis team opened its season on Wednesday afternoon with a convincing 6-1 victory over Presbyterian. The Tigers earned the doubles point quickly and won five of the six singles points to solidify the victory.
Clemson clinched the doubles point quickly and convincingly, as Samantha Buyckx and Sophia Hatton took care of business on Court 3 by a score of 6-3, while Ali DeSpain and Jenna Thompson finished their match 6-2 just moments later on Court 2.
In singles play, the Tigers’ top players put on outstanding performances, as Jenna Thompson put her opponent away on Court 2, 6-0, 6-2 while Daniella Medvedeva also won 6-2, 6-0 on Court 1, which ultimately clinched the match for the Tigers. Lana Sipek picked up a victory on Court 4, 6-2, 6-0 and Sophia Hatton and Makayla Mills secured victories on Courts 3 and 6, respectively.
“This was a great start for our team. The girls competed very well and came out strong from start to finish!” raved Head Coach Christy Lynch. “It was also great to see Dani, Sam and Alex playing their first college matches for Clemson.”
Up next, the Tigers return to the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility on Saturday, January 22 for a double header with Western Carolina. The first match will begin at 11 a.m., followed by the day’s finale starting at 4 p.m.
