Clemson Notes:
– The Tigers (13-12, 6-8 ACC) finished the ACC regular season with two road matches, a 4-3 upset over No. 22 Virginia in Charlottesville on April 20, followed by a 4-0 loss to No. 3 Georgia Tech in Atlanta on April 22.
– Against the Cavaliers, Clemson won the doubles point, and Fernanda Navarro at No. 2, Sydney Riley at No. 5 and Daniela Ruiz at No. 6, won their singles matches to secure the upset.
– Ruiz, the Tigers’ lone senior and a three-time team captain, has now clinched the victory in the team’s last three wins, also doing so on the road at Pittsburgh on April 6 and at home against Louisville on April 13. The match against Louisville was Ruiz’s Senior Day, and she ended up clinching the win in a third-set tiebreak.
– Ruiz leads the team in overall wins, dual match wins and ACC wins, with a 22-15 overall record, a 12-8 mark in dual matches and a 7-6 ledger in conference play.
– Ruiz was named a recipient of the 2018 ACC Weaver-James-Corrigan Postgraduate Scholarship. The Beni, Bolivia native will graduate from Clemson in May 2018 with a degree in Industrial Engineering, and has already begun taking classes toward a master’s degree in that field.
– Junior Marie-Alexandre Leduc is ranked 23rd in the nation in singles according to the ITA poll released on April 24. Leduc has a 20-10 overall record, an 11-7 record in dual matches and a 6-6 mark in ACC play. She has played all 18 of her dual matches at No. 1 singles, and has eight wins over nationally-ranked opponents on the season.
– Leduc and fellow junior Fernanda Navarro are ranked 20th nationally in doubles. The pair is 19-7 overall, 11-4 in dual matches and 6-2 in ACC dual matches.
