Tigers Conclude Play at Furman Fall Classic

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Six Clemson women’s tennis players and two doubles teams concluded play Sunday at the Furman Fall Classic. Clemson’s action was highlighted by a flight one doubles title for the Tigers’ eighth-ranked duo of Beatrice Gumulya and Jessy Rompies.

Rompies and Gumulya defeated Blanco and Perez of Alabama 8-2 in the first round of the tournament Friday, and Lechemia and Berg of South Carolina 8-3 in Saturday’s second round. In the finals on Sunday, the Tiger duo defeated Castaneda and Fanning of Florida State 8-3 to claim the championship.

In singles action, junior Joana Eidukonyte, playing at flight two, defeated Emily Zabor of Alabama 6-1, 6-3 and Morven McCulloch of Iowa 6-2, 6-2 before falling in the title match 6-4, 6-2 to Vanderbilt’s Sydney Campbell on Sunday. Overall, Clemson players went 10-7 in 17 singles matches on the weekend.

Gumulya and Rompies travel to Pacific Palisades, Calif. on Monday to join teammates Romy Koelzer and Tristen Dewar at the Riviera ITA All-American Championships. Follow @ClemsonWTennis and check ClemsonTigers.com for updates.
