CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson women’s tennis team saw its first action of the 2016 fall season on Sept. 23-25 at the Furman Fall Classic in Greenville, S.C. Sophomore Marie-Alexandre Leduc led the Tigers, finishing third in the Flight 2 singles draw and also, with teammate Ayan Broomfield, taking third place in the Flight 1 doubles draw.
In her quarterfinal match, Leduc defeated Vanderbilt’s Fernanda Contreras, 6-1, 6-1, before suffering a hard-fought three-set loss to Emma Davis of Wake Forest. She rebounded in the third-place match, defeating Furman’s Katty Weymouth, 6-2, 6-0.
Sophomore Jenny Moinard went 2-1 in the round-robin Flight 6 singles draw. Moinard defeated Karlee Bryde of Furman, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, and Hannah Ferrett, also of Furman, 1-6, 6-1, 6-3, before falling to Tennessee’s Kim Kermet, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2.
In Flight 1 doubles action, Leduc and Broomfield won 8-4 over Hammond and Repic of Tennessee, before falling to Vanderbilt’s Rosca and Sharma, 8-5. The pair went on to win their match for third place, defeating Castaneda and Mikulski of Florida State, 8-5.
