Koroleva, Gumulya Go Down in All-American Main Draw

PACIFIC PALISADES, CA – Yana Koroleva, the nation’s no. 7 player, fell in three sets to Maria Belaya of William and Mary, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 in the Main Draw of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, CA. 13th-ranked Koroleva and Gumulya also fell to No. 29 Sanon and Vaidya of Columbia in the Main Draw doubles, 8-5.   Belaya played her freshman season at Clemson in 2011, helping the Tigers to the Sweet 16, before transferring to William and Mary.  Koroleva will play in the backdraw bracket in singles, and she and Gumulya will also play doubles.  Koroleva was playing in her first match of the fall. In her last spring action, she advanced to the Quarterfinals of the NCAA Singles Championships.  After returning from California, Gumulya and Koroleva will get ready for the ITA Carolina Regional in Chapel Hill, NC at the end of October.  The rest of the team will participate in the Duckworth Family Fall Classic this weekend at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center.  Results: Oct. 2 Qualifying Singles Draw Georgiana Patrasc (Mississippi State) def.
