Clemson senior Keri Wong will have one more crack at extending her NCAA career as she participates in the NCAA Singles Championships at the Dan Magill Tennis Center in Athens, GA beginning Wednesday. Wong, ranked 46th nationally, will take on No. 19 Danielle Lao of Southern California in the Round of 64 at 4:00 pm. The appearance is Wong’s second of her career in the singles championships. Live scoring and live video will be available courtesy of GeorgiaDogs.com.Individually, Wong is 24-11 this season and 102-44 in her career. She’s one of three players in Clemson history with more than 100 singles and doubles wins, and her 219 wins is third all-time. Clemson finished the season at 16-10 overall this season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the 11th consecutive season. Wong played at the No. 1 singles and doubles position for most of the year, and was named All-ACC for the third time in her career. Lao’s Southern Cal team advanced to the Final Four this season, in large part due to her upset of No. 5 Mallory Burdette of Stanford in the Elite Eight. She did drop her match on court two to UCLA’s McCall Jones in three sets to decide the match in the semis, and enters at 30-7 this season. The two have met once before in 2010 in the Qualifying of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships when the then-freshman Lao knocked off Wong, 6-2, 6-3. Clemson’s doubles team of Wong and Josipa Bek was slated to compete in the Doubles Championships, but had to withdraw late due to illness to Bek.
