Day 1 Full Results and Day 2 Schedule
GREENVILLE, SC – The Clemson women’s tennis team opened their season today at the Furman Fall Classic, which features eight teams, seven of whom finished in the top 25 last season. The Tigers were 2-4 in doubles, but posted a 5-2 mark in singles play. The Classic does not count toward a dual match record, but players can win individual and doubles flight titles.
The first day featured two rounds of doubles and one round of singles, so it was a long day for all involved. Saturday’s action will get underway at 9:00 am. Full draws and match times are available at Clemsontigers.com, and results will be available after the match.
Clemson’s two freshmen were impressive in their first collegiate matches. Maria Belaya won her match against Florida State’s Manon Veldman, 6-0 6-0.
Caroline Magnusson won her opener as well, defeating Jenny Porter of Furman, 6-1, 6-2.
In doubles, the fifth-ranked duo of Bek and Wong defeated Preeg and Mira form Vanderbilt, but fell in the second round to another Commodore tandem, 8-6.
Belaya and Caroline Magnusson defeated Stanford and Porter from Furman, 8-0 for Clemson’s other doubles win.
