CHAPEL HILL, NC – Clemson’s women’s tennis doubles team of Ani Majacika and Carol Salge fell in the championship match of the 2006 Wilson/ITA Southeast Regional on Monday afternoon. Earlier in the day, the Tiger tandem won an 8-1 decision over Caitlin Collins and Sanaz Marand of North Carolina to advance to the finals of the tournament, which was held at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center on the campus of the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC.
Majacika and Salge were edged by Kentucky’s team of Kim Coventry and Joelle Schwenk, 8-6, to finish second.
After receiving a bye for the first round, the Tiger team defeated Pooja Kommireddi and Stephanie Parkison from Middle Tennessee, 8-0, in the round of 32. Majacika and Salge then won an 8-6 decision over Duke’s Amanda Granson and Tory Zawacki before posting an 8-1 victory against Ashlee Davis and Sasha Kulikova in the quarterfinals.
The Clemson women’s tennis team will be back in action this weekend as the Tigers will play host to Auburn-Montgomery for a three-day tournament at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center.
