CLEMSON, SC – Brian Wofford caught six passes for 240 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Orange team to a 53-38 victory over the White team in the third annual Clemson Sons Bowl at Clemson Memorial Stadium. The flag football game featured former Tigers from the 1970s to the 2008 season.
Homer Jordan, who quarterbacked the Tigers to the 1981 National Championship, completed 19 of 26 passes for 374 yards and four touchdowns and Patrick Sapp added 194 passing yards and four touchdowns for the victorious White team that was coached by former NFL veteran Brentson Buckner, an All-ACC player on Clemson’s 1993 team.
Wofford had touchdown receptions of 63 and 62 yards, respectively, in the first quarter and helped the White team to a 32-6 lead at one point.
But the Orange team made a comeback behind Airese Currie and Justin Miller, who caught three touchdown passes apiece. Currie had six receptions for 187 yards and Miller had six for 170. Miller also had a 72-yard interception return and completed two passes for 68 yards. Currie had the longest play of the day, an 80 yard pass reception from Reese in the third period that cut the lead to 45-32, but that was as close as the Orange team could get.
Tribble Reese was the top passer in the game in terms of yardage with 448 yards and four touchdown passes.
After the game, the players gathered at midfield and made a special presentation to former Clemson Athletic Director Bill McLellan for his contributions to the program when he was athletic director between 1971-85.
