Clemson, S.C.—Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson has been named the AutoNation National Offensive Player of the Week by the Football Writers of America. Watson led Clemson to a 37-27 victory over Syracuse last Saturday.
The Tigers are now 10-0 for the season and ranked No. 1 by Associated Press and USA Today Coaches Poll. Clemson was No. 1 in the College Football Playoff Poll last week. A new poll will be released Tuesday night at 9:30 p.m.
This is the second time this year Watson has received National Player of the Week honors. He received the same acclaim from the Walter Camp Foundation, the Maxwell Award and the Capital One Impact Performance from ESPN for his performance at NC State.
Watson completed 34-47 passes for 360 yards and two scores and also had 13 rushes for 105 yards and a score at Syracuse. His 465 yards of total offense were the a career high and the fourth most in Clemson history. His 34 completions were a career high and the third most in a single game in Clemson history.
For the season, Watson has completed 216-308 passes for 2593 yards and 23 touchdowns. He averages 259 passing yards per game and has completed 70.1 percent of his passes. His completion percentage is fourth best in the nation and his passing efficiency is ranked 14th. His 23 touchdown passes rank 11th.
