Vote for Andre Ellington for GEICO Play of the Year

Vote for Ellington Now Through Sept. 16: www.Facebook.com/BestOfCollegeFootball

CHICAGO, IL – Clemson senior running back Andre Ellington‘s acrobatic, spinning run against Auburn on September 1 has been nominated for the GEICO Play of the Year, announced by Intersport. Each week, fans vote for the GEICO Play of the Year and the winner will be announced on GEICO Best of College Football 2012 on CBS Nov. 23 at 1:30 p.m. ET.

In addition to recognizing the season’s top plays, the one-hour CBS special relives the season’s greatest moments, players and traditions. The show also marks the culmination of the GEICO “Best of 2012” Football Tour, an interactive fan experience that visits 30 marquee games throughout the football season.

Each week for eight weeks, four incredible college football plays will be nominated as the Play of the Year on the GEICO Best of College Football Facebook page (facebook.com/bestofcollegefootball). The eight weekly winners will then faceoff in a week of finals voting from November 4 through 11 to determine the 2012 GEICO Play of the Year.

Ellington had a monster night for the Tigers, leading his team to a marquee season-opening victory over SEC foe Auburn. Ellington ended the day with 228 yards rushing, but one run stood out from the rest. Midway through the second quarter with Clemson trailing 7-6, Ellington split the defense and burst into the secondary. His run looked to be over when an Auburn defender wrapped him up and twisted him to the ground, but Ellington used the momentum to roll on top of the defender, keep his balance and take off.  Ellington crossed to the other side of the field before finally being pushed out of bounds inside the Auburn 20. The 68-yard run led to a Clemson touchdown and helped the team ultimately claim a 26-21 victory. To view the play, go to: http://bit.ly/OEgYgt.

Ellington’s balancing-act run is competing against three other plays from week one, including a one-handed touchdown catch from Ohio State’s Devin Smith, a defender-hurtling run from Michigan State’s Le’Veon Bell and juke-filled reverse touchdown from California’s Keenan Allen.
