Six Tigers Named to 2010 All-ACC Academic Football Team

Six Tigers were named to the 2010 All-ACC Academic football team, announced Thursday by ACC Commissioner John Swofford. The 52-member All-ACC Academic football team had six Tigers on it, second-most in the ACC, trailing only Duke’s 13 selections.

Sophomore wide receiver Brandon Maye (sociology), and junior punter Dawson Zimmerman (English) comprised Clemson’s six selections.

It was the third such selection for Maye, who ended his Clemson career with 233 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, and six caused fumbles in 35 games (33 starts) from 2008-10. It was also the second time that Cloy, Freeman, Hall, and Zimmerman received All-ACC Academic honors.

Cloy and Freeman were both key contributors on the offensive line in 2010. Cloy played 356 snaps in 12 games (two starts) and totaled 31 knockdown blocks, while Freeman had 58 knockdown blocks in 811 snaps over 13 starts in 2010.

Hall had two interceptions in 2010 and has eight in his first two seasons as a Tiger. He also amassed 65 tackles and three pass breakups in 621 snaps over 13 games (12 starts) in 2010.

Zimmerman had a 42.7-yard average on 60 punts along with 19 punts inside the 20, nine punts of 50+ yards, and a 40.6-yard net average in 13 starts in 2010. He was also the only punter to be named one of 10 semifinalists for the 2010 Ray Guy Award.

Brown had 32 catches for 405 yards and three touchdowns in 12 games (10 starts) in 2010. He was fourth on the team in receptions and second in receiving yards.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 GPA for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative GPA during his academic career. The ACC has selected an All-ACC Academic football team every year since 1954.
