sapp throws for 455 yards

Clemson, S.C.—Patrick Sapp threw for 455 yards and five touchdowns to five different receivers to lead the White Team to a 35-34 win over the Orange team at the 11th annual Clemson Sons Bowl on Saturday, April 14. The flag football game featuring former Clemson football players was held at Memorial Stadium prior to the Clemson Spring Game.

The game was played with 20-minute halves with a running clock, but both teams managed to score five touchdowns. The difference came down to the team that was more efficient in scoring conversions after touchdowns.

The game was close throughout as neither team had over a touchdown lead until the second half when Sapp threw an eight-yard scoring pass to Tony DeSue to give the White team a 29-20 lead. The Orange team came back to get within a point on a 25 yard touchdown pass from Homer Jordan to Nelson Faerber and a two point conversion pass from Jordan to Rush Lowther.

But that was as close as the Orange team could get as the teams traded touchdowns late in the game.
