CLEMSON, SC – Clemson safety DeAndre McDaniel has been named National Defensive Back of the Week for his performance at Miami (FL) by the College Performance Awards. The website honors players each week based on performance at various positions.
McDaniel had two interceptions, including one that he returned 23 yards for a touchdown in Clemson’s 40-37 overtime victory at eighth ranked Miami. McDaniel also had seven tackles in the game. He now has seven interceptions in seven games this year and is tied for the national leader in interceptions with Rahim Moore of UCLA, who also has seven interceptions in seven games.
McDaniel’s 23-yard return for a touchdown in the second half was the first touchdown of his career and it was the first interception return for a score by a Tiger since Chris Clemons had one against South Carolina State in 2008.
