McClinton To Sit Out 2003

Clemson senior defensive tackle Todd McClinton will not play for the Tigers in 2003. The native of Columbia has had problems with fainting spells during the off season and during the preseason practices. McClinton had an episode as recently as the third day of practice back on August 7.

McClinton has been undergoing tests since the August 7 episode that took place prior to a practicee. Doctors feel he must go through a six month period without seizures before he is cleared to play.

“I feel badly for Todd,” said Clemson Head Coach Tommy Bowden. “He was working very hard and was definitely going to be a factor this year. His health obviously comes first.”

McClinton is a senior, but might have another year of eligibility in 2004. As a partial qualifier out of high school, he could become eligible for the 2004 season if he graduates by the end summer school in August 2004.

McClinton played in 10 games a year ago as a backup and had 15 tackles and five quarterback pressures. He played 141 snaps in the 10 games last year. He lettered as a tight end in 2001.
