Jan. 10, 2002

New Orleans – College football’s ultimate skills competition-The College Football All-Star Challenge-returns to Fox Sports on Saturday, February 2nd (3:30-4:30pm, ET) This year’s event, the fourth annual competition produced by Intersport, will match the nation’s best collegians in the premier skill positions: quarterback, running back, and wide receiver. The All-Star Challenge, coinciding with the host city for the Super Bowl, will take place on Thursday, January 31 from 1-3pm (CT) at Zephyr Field, home of the New Orleans AAA baseball team. Tickets are $5 and can be obtained through Ticketmaster at (504) 522-5555 or at the Zephyrs ticket office.

This year’s field includes two of the most prolific quarterbacks in college football history-Indiana’s Antwaan Randle El and Clemson’s Woodrow Dantzler. Randle El, the Big Ten’s Most Valuable Player, rushed for more yards (3,895) than any quarterback in NCAA Division I-A history. He finished sixth in the Heisman Trophy voting this past season and completed his career by being the only player to record over 2,500 total yards in four consecutive seasons. Dantzler, who holds 50 individual Clemson records, became the only quarterback in history to pass for over 2,000 yards and rush for over 1,000 in the same season. In his last game with the Tigers, Dantzler fired four touchdown passes in Clemson’s Humanitarian Bowl win over Louisiana Tech.

Additionally, this year’s field includes Illinois signal-caller Kurt Kittner, the school’s career leader in touchdown passes. Running backs scheduled to compete include Tennessee All-American Travis Stephens, UCLA’s DeShaun Foster, and Ohio State’s Jonathan Wells. Wide receivers in this year’s All-Star Challenge include Virginia Tech’s Andre Davis and Florida State’s Javon Walker.

The College Football All-Star Challenge tests the accuracy, speed, agility, mobility, and strength of the participants in four separate competitions. Chicago-based Intersport, a sports television, management, and marketing company, is considered one of the industry’s leaders. The company’s credo is ‘New Ideas in Sports with Total Quality Execution.
