Clemson Ranked in Top 25 of Both Final Football Polls

Clemson, SC — Clemson finished in the top 25 of both final 2007 college football polls. The Tigers were 21st in AP and 22nd in USA Today in the polls released on Tuesday. It marked the third time in the last five years that Clemson has finished in the top 25 of both polls.

Clemson was one of three ACC teams in the final top 25 of both polls. Virginia Tech was ninth in both polls and Boston College was 11th. The Tigers finished with a 9-4 record and joined Virginia Tech and Boston College as the only three ACC schools to win at least eight games in each of the last three years.

Clemson was unranked in either preseason poll, but finished in the top 25, one of 11 schools to finish in the final top 25 after being unranked in the preseason poll. It marked the third time in the last five years Clemson had entered the season unranked, then finished in the top 25.

Overall, it was the fourth top 25 season for the Tigers under Tommy Bowden. He is now third in Clemson history in top 25 seasons. Danny Ford and Frank Howard hold the record with seven apiece.

Overall, this is the 24th season that Clemson has been ranked in the final top 25, the ninth time Clemson has been ranked in the final poll after not appearing in the preseason poll. Clemson was not ranked in the preseason poll, but finished in the final poll in 1950, 1951, 1956, 1957, 1977 and 1981.
