Clemson Practice Brief

Aug. 24, 2007

Clemson, SC-Clemson held another three hour practice on the practice fields behind the Jervey Athletic Center on Friday. The Tigers are preparing for their September 3 opener with Florida State.

“We had a much better practice today,” said Bowden. “They practiced like they couldn’t see the end of the tunnel yesterday, but today was much better. There were rain showers before the practice and perhaps that cooled things off.” Clemson started the workout 30 minutes behind schedule, but caught up because they did not have to take as many breaks due to the heat.

“The big reason we had a better practice was the performance and effort of the scout team. They worked hard and did a good job simulating Florida State. The better the scout team plays the better we will be prepared. Jermaine Martin is one of the leaders of that scout team. He played hard and helped the veterans get ready. We put Jermaine on full scholarship this year and we saw why today.”

There were no new injuries today. Brandon Maye was the only player in a yellow jersey as he recovers from a foot injury.

“I am happy with the way we have practiced overall in the preseason. They worked hard in the spring and the summer. They have done a good job off the field as well. When they do well off the field and in the classroom it is usually an indication that they are focused and that carries over to the field.”

The Tigers will practice once on Saturday morning, then take Sunday off before holding an evening practice on Monday.
