 News & Notes

  • McCullough Earns More Time – Morris said sophomore tight end Jay Jay McCullough has earned more playing time. “He was by far our most physical tight end at Georgia, and is coming off a great game against South Carolina State. You’ll continue to see him more.”
  • New Coordinator, Same Mindset – Morris and Stoudt both confirmed while FSU has a new defensive coordinator in place this season, the Seminoles have still shown a propensity for bringing pressure and playing press coverage on wide receivers. “They aren’t too different; they still play with that hard edge,” Stoudt said, “so we’ll have to match that intensity.”
  • First Time for Everything – Stoudt is attempting to become the first quarterback to lead the Tigers to victory at Doak Campbell Stadium since Will Proctor in 2006. Prior to that, Clemson’s last win in Tallahassee was in 1989 when Chris Morocco was the quarterback. In both instances, Morocco and Proctor were first-year senior starters who had waited patiently behind a multi-year starter (Rodney Williams, Charlie Whitehurst).

TIGER TIDBITS

  • This will be Clemson’s second road game against a top-12 team within the first three games of the season. It is the first time since 1996 that Clemson has played just one home game through the first four weeks of the season. It is the first time in history Clemson has played two top-12 teams within the first three games of the season, nevermind playing both on the road.
  • Each of the last five years, the winner of the Clemson vs. Florida State game has gone on to win the ACC Atlantic Division. Each of the last three years, the winner of this game has won the ACC Championship.
  • This is the 10th time in the history of the series that both teams enter the game in the top 25 of the AP poll. Both teams are ranked in the top 25 of both polls this year, the fourth straight year that has been the case.
  • Clemson has not faced a top-ranked team since 1999, when the Tigers hosted Florida State. Three of the four previous times Clemson played a top-ranked team, that opponent was Florida State.
