Clemson Football Team to Register for Bone Marrow Directory

Players on Clemson’s football team will register on the National Bone Marrow Donor Registry after football practice on Wednesday and Thursday (November 12-13) of this week. The team will go through the process in the team locker room in the Jervey Athletic Center. Each player will give four mouth swabs and fill out a form to join the registry.

“Trey Robinson, who is Aaron Kelly’s roommate, came to me last week and asked for our help in this project,” said Clemson Head Coach Dabo Swinney. “We hope we can help add to the awareness of this project and increase the donor registry, which will eventual save lives of people who suffer from leukemia, lymphoma and other diseases.”

Robinson is a founding member of Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity, the newest fraternity on the Clemson campus. “The mother of one of our advisors died because she could not find a bone marrow match,” said Robinson. “We want to raise money for this project, and also increase awareness about the bone marrow donor registry.”

Members of the registry will be on the Clemson campus at the Hendrix Center from Monday, November 17 through Thursday, November 20 to give Clemson students, faculty and the general public an opportunity to register. This drive also will take place on South Carolina’s campus as well, and the two schools will compete to see which school can have the most people join the registry.
