Clemson Football Team Recognized for Top 10 Percent APR Score

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson football team was one of 14 schools recognized with a Public Recognition Award from the NCAA for its Academic Progress Rate scores on Tuesday. The National Governing Body recognizes programs in the top 10 percent in the nation in terms of APR scores each May in each sport.

Clemson was recognized in the “2010 and later” category along with Boise State, Duke, Middle Tennessee State, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Rice, Rutgers, Stanford, Ohio State, Air Force, Navy, Miami (FL) and Vanderbilt.

Clemson has had outstanding graduation rates among its football players in recent years. Every senior on the 2006 team (20) earned an undergraduate degree. Fourteen of the 17 seniors on the 2010 team have degrees and 87 of 96 student-athletes on the football team over the last five years (.906) have earned degrees.

“Most student-athletes excel at balancing their academic and athletics commitments, yet each year there are those who perform at extraordinary levels,” NCAA President Mark Emmert said. “By achieving the highest levels of academic success as a team, these young men and women truly embody what it means to be a successful NCAA student-athlete.”

The Clemson golf team was also honored with a Public Recognition Award for its APR scores for the 2004-05 class.

The APR is a metric established by the NCAA to indicate the success of collegiate athletic teams in moving student athletes towards graduation over multiple years. The NCAA began calculating the APR in 2005. The NCAA will release APR scores for all sports programs at all schools next week.
