Clemson Football Practice Report: Tigers Prepare for Georgia Tech

Sept. 7, 2009

Clemson, SC – It was Monday on the calendar, but Tuesday and Wednesday when it comes to the practice schedule for Clemson’s Tigers. Clemson has just four days of preparation for Thursday night’s game at Georgia Tech. The contest will be nationally televised by ESPN and has a 7:45 PM kickoff.

The Tigers practiced for two hours on Monday night on the practice fields behind the Jervey Athletic Center. The first half of practice included piped in crowd noise and the Georgia Tech fight song.

“We played at home in the opener and now we have our first road game,” said Clemson Head Coach Dabo Swinney. “We have to practice getting the snap cadence, staying on tempo in an opponent’s stadium with their crowd noise. It was a good practice tonight. We have bounced back very well. We played Saturday night, then practiced Sunday night and tonight. We are in good shape physically.”

That includes Clemson running back C.J. Spiller who went through the entire practice. “C.J. looked fine. You will see two of the best running backs in the nation Thursday night.” Georgia Tech features ACC Player of the Year Jonathan Dwyer as its top running back. Spiller did not play in the second half against Middle Tennessee in the opener as he was held out for precautionary reasons due to first half hamstring and foot injury.

“It is a strange week when you play on Thursday night. Sunday was like a Monday and Tuesday combined. Tonight was like a Tuesday and Wednesday combined. Tomorrow (Tuesday) will be Thursday. I will be glad when we get on a set schedule. “

Clemson will play on just Saturday’s the remainder of the season with the weekend of October 10 serving as the open date.
