The Tigers had a situational scrimmage much of Saturday followed by a conditioning run at the end of the workout. “We had a good practice after a slow start, ” said Swinney, whose team is just weeks away from its opener with Middle Tennessee. “We worked on various situations today…third-and-five, third and two, third and short, all kinds of situations.

“Monday we will start two weeks of pure game plan practices for Middle Tennessee. It is the most important game of the year.”

Swinney addressed the kicking game again after practice. “Spencer Benton did a good job in terms of kickoffs today. He seems to be in the lead for that job. The kickers have performed better since Tuesday’s scrimmage. I am still looking for someone who can put it through the uprights day in and day out.”
