Clemson, SC – Clemson returned to the practice fields after taking a break on Wednesday for the opening of school. Dabo Swinney worked his Tigers for two and a half hours in full pads on the practice fields behind the Jervey Athletic Center.
“We had a good practice with good enthusiasm,” said Swinney, who will see his Tigers open the season against Middle Tennessee on September 5. “They had good focus and good attention to detail. You never know how they will be after the first day off for school, but it was a good first day.”
Swinney talked with his team about the importance of the special teams after practice on Thursday. “Special teams are so important because a good play on special teams can energize your offense and your defense. You saw that last year when Jamie Harper had the blocked punt against South Carolina. It energized us on both sides of the ball.”
Clemson had nine players out due to injury last week, but just five players missed parts of practice on Thursday. The only player in a yellow jersey was walk-on linebacker Chris Richardson (ankle). Linebacker Brandon Maye (shoulder), wide receiver Miguel Chavis (hamstring) and wide receiver Brandon Clear (ribs) were in green jerseys, which means they were able to go through some drills.
Clemson continues with practice on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning (tentative) and the team will hold its annual Fan Appreciation Day on Sunday at 3:00 Pm at Clemson Memorial Stadium.
