CLEMSON, SC – Clemson returned to the practice field on Monday after a day off on Sunday. The Tigers worked twice, the second two-a-day session of the preseason. Dabo Swinney‘s Tigers worked 20 periods in the morning and 16 more in the evening. The Tigers were in full pads in the morning and in shells in the evening.
Swinney discussed his feelings about Saturday’s stadium scrimmage. “There was a lot of good and a lot of bad based on what I saw on the film of Saturday’s scrimmage,” said Swinney. “The challenge for this week is to get better by the time we scrimmage again on Saturday.
“Last Saturday was the first day we stepped away, it was not a controlled situation. The big thing is the guys competed. We didn’t execute everything. The skill guys made some nice plays and I was pleased with the defensive line in the goal line drills. Everyone has some improving to do over the next week.”
Swinney talked about the pace of practice and the physical nature of this preseason. “We can’t pace our guys like you can do in some previous years because we are playing Georgia in the opener. To prepare the team properly for a game of that intensity you have to simulate that intensity in practice. Injuries are going to be a part of the deal.
“Right now is the time to push. We will pull back on the legs closer to the game.”
Defensive back Garry Peters was back at practice today after missing a few days including the Saturday scrimmage with leg injury. Senior defensive back Darius Robinson continues to recover from a concussion, but is expected back this week. Freshman defensive back Mackensie Alexander hopes to be back later in the week after battling a groin injury.
Freshman Adrian Baker suffered a knee injury in the scrimmage on Saturday. He was to have an MRI Monday afternoon and will be reevaluated on Tuesday morning. Swinney said after the morning practice that it does not appear to be serious.
