Clemson Football Practice Notes

August 27, 1998

CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson was back at practice behind the Jervey Athletic Center for a two-hour workout on Thursday. It was Clemson’s first practice since its last scrimmage of the preseason.

“We had a lot of players out with bumps and bruises from the scrimmage,” said West. “We had a lot of players out, but nothing serious. It was a hot day today. We reviewed the film from yesterday’s scrimmage and worked to make corrections.”

Matt Bailey missed practice with a lower leg pull. He had finally returned to practice after missing a week with a different injury. Antwan Edwards was back at practice after suffering an injury in last Saturday’s scrimmage. Javis Austin was also back in a limited role.

Freshman lineman Gary Byrd missed the practice with a toe injury and senior running back John Thompson was out with a sprained ankle.

“Brian Wofford ran well today. We are encouraged that he can be at full speed next week,” said West.

Clemson began putting in its gameplan for Furman on Thursday.

“We cut back on some of the things we have been doing in practice and start work on Furman.”

West said there was no decision on the academic status of linebacker Warren Lott. He did say that Clemson University had received all the necessary paper work from the junior college.
