Clemson, SC – Clemson had a normal Monday practice in perfect weather, a drastic change from the rainstorm the Tigers played in against TCU this past Saturday. The Tigers worked from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM on the practice fields behind the Jervey Athletic Center.
As has been the case the last three weeks, C.J. Spiller was limited in his Monday practice. Each of the last three weeks he has sat out the Monday and Tuesday practices, then gained over 200 all-purpose running yards on Saturday. That included this past Saturday when he had 112 yards rushing, 79 receiving and 36 on kickoff returns against 15th ranked TCU.
“What C.J. has done has been just extraordinary,” said Clemson Head Coach Dabo Swinney on Monday night. “He just joined Reggie Bush as the only player in college history with 2500 yards rushing, 1500 on kickoff returns, 1000 yards receiving and 500 on punt returns. And he really was a part time player his first three years.
`He has had an incredible year so far and there is no telling what he can accomplish the rest of the season.”
Chris Hairston was in a yellow jersey as well on Monday. Clemson’s starting left tackle missed the TCU game with a knee injury suffered in the Boston College. Hairston hopes to return for this weekend’s game with Maryland in College Park.
“We had a good practice tonight. The attitude was good. It was a correction Monday. We have lost two games to top 15 teams by a total of seven points. It has been frustrating, but at the same time we see a lot of positives as we go forward.”
