Clemson Fans Urged to Follow These Steps to Avoid Downtown Atlanta Construction Zone

Aug. 22, 2008

ATLANTA, GA – The Georgia Department of Transportation is conducting a major Interstate reconstruction project where I-85 south meets I-75 south on Labor Day Weekend. This construction will cause severe delays in Midtown and Downtown Atlanta, and greatly affect fans attending the 2008 Chick-fil-A College Kickoff between Alabama and Clemson, as well as all of the pre-game festivities in Centennial Olympic Park.

Fans who wish to avoid delays traveling into Atlanta for the Chick-fil-A College Kickoff game between Alabama and Clemson and surrounding activities are urged to follow these guidelines for attending all events on Aug. 30.

1. ARRIVE EARLY: Allow plenty of time and plan to arrive early to take advantage of the various pre-game activities in Centennial Olympic Park, including ESPN’s live broadcast of College Gameday at 10 a.m. and the College Kickoff FanZone presented by Coca-Cola Zero from noon – 6 p.m. Admission to both events is free. A full list of the day’s activities can be found at

2. TAKE MARTA INTO DOWNTOWN: Motorists traveling into the city for game day events are strongly urged to park at an outlying MARTA station and ride the train into downtown to avoid the construction zone. For only $1.75 each way, customers can take the East/West rail line to the Dome/GWCC/Philips Arena/CNN Center Station (W1) and walk directly into the Georgia Dome and to Centennial Olympic Park. Customers taking the North/South rail line will need to transfer to the West Line at Five Points rail station and travel one stop to the Dome/GWCC/Philips Arena/CNN Center Station. 3. USE ALTERNATE ROUTES: If you are traveling by car and plan to park downtown, please use the suggested alternate routes listed on the attached map all day Saturday, August 30.
