Clemson Announces Non-Conference Football Game Dates

Feb. 17, 2012

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson will meet Auburn on Saturday, September 1 in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Classic at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. The contest will open Clemson’s season and will be the second game of a weekend doubleheader at the Georgia Dome. The previous day, Friday, August 31, NC State will face Tennessee.

Clemson announced its other three non-conference dates on Friday. The Tigers will face Ball State at Clemson Memorial Stadium on September 8, then play host to its oldest rival, Furman, on September 15. The two schools met in Clemson’s first football game in 1896. Clemson ends its season November 24 when South Carolina comes to Clemson.

The dates of the eight conference games on the schedule have not yet been released. The Atlantic Coast Conference provided a statement on the subject on Thursday.

“We at the Atlantic Coast Conference realize that there is tremendous anticipation for the release of the 2012 ACC Football schedule. The conference office and member institutions are equally in anticipation and are taking steps to expedite finding appropriate solutions.

“As has been documented, there are a number of unusual circumstances beyond the control of the ACC and its member schools that have directly impacted a number of our school’s non-conference schedules, which in turn effects the development and completion of the overall schedule. Please know that all parties are working diligently and we appreciate everyone’s continued patience.”

Clemson will face Georgia Tech, Maryland, NC State and Virginia Tech at home this year and travel to Boston College, Duke, Florida State and Wake Forest.

Game day designations will be established shortly after the dates of our 2012 ACC games are released.
