CLEMSON, S.C. – Tommy Bowden’s big date with his father, Florida State coach Bobby Bowden, will be marked with a commemorative envelope.

The Clemson coach will play host to his dad and the Seminoles on Oct. 23 in the first father-son meeting in college football history.

“We wanted to do a unique item that could be mass distributed through the Postal Service to commemorate coach (Tommy) Bowden’s first season,” said Dusty Cummins of the Collegiate Licensing Co., which authorized a company called CEO Sports to design and produce the envelopes.

The envelopes will be on sale at the Clemson post office and perhaps other selected outlets on the day of the game. They will cost $5 apiece.

Between 10,000 and 12,000 envelopes will be produced.

CEO Sports also has produced commemorative envelopes for Tennessee’s national championship and Mark McGwire’s record-breaking home run. Earlier this year, South Carolina coach Lou Holtz’s opener with N.C. State was celebrated with a commemorative envelope in Columbia.

“The Postal Service usually gets behind these and sponsors them,” Cummins said.
