Clemson, S.C.—Clemson senior linebacker Stephone Anthony has been named the Chuck Bednarik National Defensive Player of the Week for his performance at Florida State this past Saturday evening. Anthony is the first Clemson player to win the award that is presented by the Maxwell Club of Philadelphia. Anthony was Clemson’s top tackler with eight stops, all of them individual tackles. He had two tackles for loss, including a sack, two passes broken up and two more quarterback pressures that led to incompletions in his 66 plays of action. Anthony was a big reason the Tigers held Florida State to 13 yards rushing and 318 yards of total offense in the #1 ranked Seminoles 23-17 overtime victory. Florida State averaged just 0.5 yards per rush for the game and had -12 yards rushing in regulation. For the season, Anthony has 18 tackles, including a team best 5.5 tackles for loss for -24 yards. He is second on the Clemson team in tackles behind classmate Tony Steward.
