Freeman Named to Rimington Award Watch List

Aug. 4, 2010

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson center Dalton Freeman has been named to the preseason Watch List for the 2010 Dave Rimington Award. Freeman is one of just three sophomores named in the announcement. The award goes to the top center in the nation.

The ACC is a strong league for centers in 2010 as six conference centers made the list, more than any other league. The other ACC centers on the watch list are Sean Bedford of Georgia Tech, Ryan McMahon of Florida State, Bryan Morgan of Duke, Russell Nenon of Wake Forest and Beau Warren of Virginia Tech.

The three sophomores from around the nation on the watch list are Freeman, Mario Benavides of Louisville and Ben Bojicic of Bowling Green.

Freeman started nine of Clemson’s 14 games last year and helped the Tigers to a top 25 final AP ranking and an Atlantic Division championship. He was named a first-team Freshman All-American by College Football News and was a first-team Academic All-ACC selection. He shared team Offensive Rookie of the Year honors with quarterback Kyle Parker.

Freeman is attempting to become the first Clemson finalist for the Rimington Award since Kyle Young. Young was a finalist in 2000 and 2001, his junior and senior seasons.
