Clemson Men’s Tennis Competes at Harvard Classic

BOSTON, MA – The Clemson men’s tennis team competed at the Harvard Classic in Boston, MA this weekend. The Tigers posted a 1-2 record over the weekend, falling to Harvard (4-3) and Minnesota (5-2), but defeating Boise State (5-2). Clemson is now 6-2 on the season.

Against Minnesota, Nathan Thompson defeated Thomas Haug 6-3, 6-4 at number one singles. At number two singles, Sander Koning fell to Alex Zhariwen 6-2, 6-3. Jarmaine Jenkins fell to Chris Wettenger 6-7, 6-3, 7-5 at flight three singles. Clemson’s Ash Misquith dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Manuel Lieuano at number four singles. At flight five singles, the Tigers’ Damiisa Robinson was victorious over Avery Ticer, 7-6, 6-3. At number six singles, John Boetsch lost a 7-5, 7-5 decision to Clay Estes.

In singles against Boise State on Saturday afternoon, Nathan Thompson dropped a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 decision to Marcus Bernston at flight one. Jenkins won a three set decision (6-4, 2-6, 6-4) for the Tigers at number two singles over Guillame Bouvier of Boise State. At number three singles Koning lost a 6-4, 7-5 decision to Thomas Schueck. Micah Thompson was victorious at flight four singles posting a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Mahmound Rezk. At number five singles, Robinson downed Matras Silva by a score of 6-1, 6-1. John Boetsch won by default at number six singles.

In doubles action against Boise State, Robinson and Misquith dropped an 8-5 decision to Bernston and Bouvier at number one doubles. The Tigers’ duo of Koning and Boetsch downed Schueck and Silva at number two doubles, 9-8 (7.5). Nathan Thompson and Jenkins won at flight three by default.

Against Harvard, Nathan Thompson defeated Dave Lingman at number one singles 6-4, 6-3. Clemson’s Koning downed George Turner at flight two singles 6-3, 7-6. Jenkins fell to Mark Riddell at number three singles 4-6, 6-4, 6-1. At number four singles, Micah Thompson dropped a 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 decision to Cliff Nguyen. Robinson was victorious at flight five singles with a 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 win over Chris Chiou. At number six singles, Boetsch fell to Harvard’s Oli Choo, 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles action against Harvard, Nathan Thompson and Jenkins fell to Riddell and Lingma 9-8 (5) at number one doubles. Koning and Boetsch lost an 8-1 decision to Choo and Nguyen at number two doubles. At flight three doubles, Misquith and Robinson lost to Turner and Chiou 8-5.
