Tigers Take Down UNC Wilmington, Furman in Sunday Doubleheader

CLEMSON, S.C. – The No. 31 Clemson Tigers improved to 10-1 on the season as they defeated UNC Wilmington (3-4) and Furman (3-5) in a Sunday doubleheader at the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility. The Tigers took down the Seahawks 4-0 and defeated the Paladins 4-1 to improve their home win streak to eight in-a-row.

In both matches, the No. 44 ranked doubles duo of Max Smith and Noa Vukadin clinched the doubles point for Clemson while sophomore Marko Mesarovic clinched both victories for the Tigers in singles.

“There has been lots of good growth for this group through the first part of our season,” Head Coach Brandon Wagner said. “Glad to see our guys get through today with two win’s, with some tough adversity today. We are looking forward to conference play coming up next weekend to start off at home and building off what we have been doing. Go Tigers!”

Clemson 4, UNC Wilmington 0

In doubles, Max Damm and Wissam Abderrahman defeated Sam Nicholson and Lukas Steffen 6-2 on court three. To win the doubles point for the Tigers, the No. 44 ranked duo of Vukadin and Smith took down Harold Huens and Alex de Gabriele 6-2 on court one.

In singles, No. 90 Abderrahman swiftly defeated Nicholson 6-4, 6-3 to extend the lead for the Tigers. On court three, Viktor Markov thwarted a comeback attempt by Joseph Wayand to win 6-3, 7-5.

Shortly after, Mesarovic clinched the match for Clemson with a 7-5, 7-5 victory over Steffen of the Seahawks.

Clemson 4, Furman 1

In doubles, Mesarovic and Matt Pitts opened up the scoring with a commanding 6-1 victory on court three. To clinch the doubles point for Clemson for the second time that day, Vukadin and Smith took down Elijah Poritzky and Matt Kandel 6-4.

In singles, Pitts was first to secure a victory as took down Furman’ Nicolas Dispas 6-1, 6-3 on court five. Following Pitts was sophomore Stewart Aronson as he took down Walker Allen 6-0, 6-2 as he dominated court six. Clinching the match for Clemson was Mesarovic as he defeated Theophile Joly on court three (6-4, 6-2) to seal the win for the Tigers.

Up next, the Tigers are back at home to open their ACC slate against Louisville on Friday, February 28 at 3 p.m. ET at the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility.
