#23 Ohio State Downs Clemson in Men’s Tennis Eric Cohn registers wins in singles and doubles for the Tigers
Clemson, SC — 23rd-ranked Ohio State won two out of three doubles matches and five out of six singles matches to defeat 46th-ranked Clemson 6-1 in men’s tennis action on Tuesday afternoon at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. Clemson falls to 3-11 on the season while Ohio State improves to 13-1.
Ohio State jumped out to an early lead on the Tigers by winning at number-two and number-three doubles. Clemson’s 23rd-ranked duo of Eric Cohn won at number-one doubles by defeating Andrew Carlson and Jon Scale 8-6. With the win, Knight and Cohn improve their overall doubles record to 9-3 on the season. Even with that win, however, Ohio State captured the doubles point by winning two out of the three matches against the Tigers.
In singles, Ohio State won at the number-one, two, three, four, and six positions. With 67th-ranked Eric Cohn, and Kevin Gottfried saw action at the number two, three, four, five, and six positions respectively for the Tigers. Cohn, in only his second dual match of the season, picked up the lone point for the Tigers as he defeated the Buckeye’s Bob Wellstein by a score of 7-6, 6-4. Cohn was the only Tiger to win a singles and doubles match against the Buckeyes.
Clemson’s next action will be tomorrow afternoon (March 21) as the Tigers open their ACC season at home against 38th-ranked Georgia Tech at 2:30 PM. The match will be played at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. If weather prohibits play on the outdoor courts, the match will be played at Clemson’s Indoor Tennis Facility.
