Nathan Thompson is defeated at the NCAA Tournament

COLLEGE STATION, TX–Jamil Al-Agba of Southern California defeated Clemson’s Nathan Thompson 7-5, 2-6, 7-5 in the first round of the NCAA Singles Tournament at College Station, TX Wednesday.

The NCAA Singles Tournament consists of the top 64 singles players in the country.

In the third set, with the score tied 5-5, Al-Agba broke Thompson’s serve and went ahead 6-5 and eventually won the third set and the match.

Thompson was named the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Player of the Year last month. He was also named region player of the year.

He finishes the season with a 25-10 record overall in singles play.

Thompson is the 41st Clemson men’s tennis player to play in the NCAA Singles Tournament. The last Clemson singles entry was in 2000 when former Tiger great, Josh Goffi played in the tournament. Thomson and Jermaine Jenkins played in the NCAA Doubles Tournament last season and advanced to the Final Four.

Thompson was Clemson’s only entry in this year’s NCAA Individual Singles or Doubles Tournament.
