Dayton’s Women Soccer Team Defeats Auburn For First Win Of Season

CLEMSON, S.C.–The Dayton Lady Flyers captured their first win of the season as they defeated the Auburn Lady Tigers 3-1 in the third game of the Clemson/Nike Invitational today September 3 at Historic Riggs Field.

While Dayton improves to 1-2 on the season with their first win, Auburn falls to 3-1 with their first loss of the season. Sophomore Missy Gregg lead the Lady Flyer attack scoring the first goal of the game at the 30:42 mark. Senior Ingrid Zielke passed the ball to junior Bridget Bushman on the right side of the goal, who then sent a beautiful back heel to Gregg, to set up the first goal. Auburn pulled even with a tenacious attack in the second half, taking 13 shots in the period. With just over 64 minutes gone in the contest, freshman Kellie Evans sent a ball to junior Ginger Sellick who shot the ball past Lady Flyer keeper Stephanie Weisenfeld.

Dayton would answer though, with two goals less than a minute apart to pull away for the win. Bushman had the game-winner at the 78:09 mark and Gregg followed with her second goal of the game at the 79:08 mark.
