Clemson’s Nathan Thompson Honored by the ITA

CLEMSON, SC–Clemson men’s tennis player Nathan Thompson has been named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s (ITA) Ted Farnsworth Senior P player of the Year for the Mideast Region.

Thompson is one of eight players selected for this honor nationally, and he is now eligible for National Player of the Year Honors.

The Mideast Region comprises of teams located in South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, and Maryland. It also consists of other ACC and Southern Conference schools located in other states.

Thompson was named the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Player of the Year last month. He has also been selected to the NCAA Men’s Singles Tournament to be held May 25-30 at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, TX. The individual singles and doubles tournament will follow the conclusion of the team championship (May 21-24).

Thompson is one of 64 players selected from across the country. Currently, he is ranked 27th nationally in singles play. This season he has a 24-9 record overall in singles play.

Thompson is the 41st Clemson men’s tennis player to play in the NCAA Singles Tournament. The last Clemson singles entry was in 2000 when former Tiger great, Josh Goffi played in the tournament. Thomson and Jermaine Jenkins played in the NCAA Doubles Tournament last season and advanced to the Final Four.
