Clemson Will Play N.C. State and Wake Forest This Weekend

CLEMSON, SC–The Clemson men’s tennis team will play N.C. State on Friday and Wake Forest on Sunday in Atlantic Coast Conference action at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center in Clemson, SC.

The Clemson-N.C. State match will start at 2:30 p.m. on Friday and the Wake Forest match will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.

The Tigers are now 8-9 overall and 0-5 in the ACC. N.C. State has a 9-7 record overall and a 3-1 record in the ACC. Wake Forest currently has a 12-6 record overall and a 2-1 mark in league play. Wake Forest will play at Georgia Tech on Friday. N.C. State is ranked 38th nationally, and Wake Forest is ranked 25th.

This will be the 60th meeting between Clemson and N.C. State on the tennis courts. Clemson leads the overall series 49-10. The series began in 1940 as Clemson won the two matches played that season. The Tigers have a 23-3 record against the Wolfpack when playing at Clemson.

When Clemson and Wake Forest meet on Sunday, it will be the 65th meeting between the Tigers and Deacons. Clemson leads the overall series 42-22. Clemson leads the series in matches played at Clemson 22-6. The series began in the 1925 season as Wake Forest won the inaugural match 5-1.

The 2009 season marks the 100th year of men’s tennis at Tigertown. Clemson first sponsored men’s tennis in 1910 when two Tiger tennis players entered the annual state tournament. The first dual match Clemson played was in the 1921 season as the Tigers defeated Wofford 2-0 on April 28, in Spartanburg, SC.
