Clemson Defeats Furman 4-3

CLEMSON, SC – Wesley Moran defeated Furman’s Andrew Mellow at number six singles in clinching the match and giving Clemson a 4-3 win over Furman in a men’s intercollegiate tennis match at Greenville, SC Thursday night.

Clemson improves to 6-0 overall this season and is ranked 64th nationally. Furman, ranked 58th nationally, falls to 3-4 this season.

Clemson will play host to The Citadel on Saturday, February 21, at 9:00 a.m. and Georgia State at 3:00 p.m. in a doubleheader at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center.

The 2010 season marks the 100th year of men’s tennis at Tigertown. Clemson first sponsored men’s tennis in 1910 when two Tiger tennis players entered the annual state tournament.

This was the 93rd meeting between the Tigers and the Paladins in men’s tennis. The Tigers now lead the overall series 74-18-1. The series began on April 17, 1923 as the Tigers won a 3-0 match at Clemson.
