Clemson Defeats DePaul 5-2

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson defeated DePaul 5-2 in a men’s intercollegiate tennis match at Clemson, SC Friday evening on the indoor courts at Clemson’s Hoke Sloan Tennis center.

With the win, Clemson improves to 7-2 on the year, while DePaul’s four-match winning streak is snapped and the Blue Demons fall to 6-2 this season. The Tigers are ranked 51st nationally, while DePaul is ranked 66th.

Yannick Maden won at number one singles for the Tigers as he defeated Sven Kasper 6-1, 6-2. Yannick Maden along with Zachary Rigsby also won at number two doubles as the duo defeated George Chanturia and Matija Palinic 8-5.

The Tigers also won at number two singles and number three singles as Derek DiFazio defeated Palinic 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 at number two spot. Kevin Galloway won his match at number three singles with a win over Chanturia 7-5, 4-6, 6-2.

Clemson’s Wesley Moran won over Ben Hartman, 6-1, 5-7, 1-0 at number six singles.

The Tigers will play host to the College of Charleston on Sunday, February 13, at 1:00 p.m. The match will be played indoors at the Hoke Sloan Tennis center on the Clemson campus.

“This was a nice win for us over a good DePaul team,” said Clemson Head Coach Chuck McCuen. “We are learning how to finish, and we are playing smarter and closing matches out. We are maturing with ever match played. Yannick Maden played well today, as he was victorious at the number one singles position. He is getting stronger and stronger. Zachary Rigsby is playing great in doubles.”
