Clemson defeats Cal-Irvine 4-3

IRVINE, CA–Gera Boryachinskiy defeated Trevor Dobson 7-6, 7-6 at number three singles and clinched the match as Clemson defeated Cal-Irvive 4-3 in a men’s intercollegiate tennis match at Irvine, CA Sunday.

Clemson improves to 7-4 overall and the Anteaters fall to 1-3 this season.

The Tigers won two of the three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. Gera Boryachinskiy and Kevin Galloway clinched the doubles point for Clemson as they defeated Ajay Ahluwalia and Gautam Vaidyanathan 9-8 in the number three match.

In singles, Clemson won both the No. 6 and No. 5 matches to take a 3-0 lead. The Anteaters’ Victor Lamm cut the lead to 3-1 as he defeated Kevin Fleck 6-4, 6-2 in No. 2 singles. Cal-Irvine’s Alex Sundling defeated Rok Bizjak 6-0, 7-5 in the No. 1 match to cut the lead to 3-2.

Boryachinskiy defeated Dobson in a pair of tie-breakers to clinch the overall win for Clemson with a 7-6, 7-6 win in No. 3 singles. Cal-Irvine’s Khunpol Issara concluded the match with a 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 win over Ike Belk in the No. 4 match to make the final score 4-3.

Clemson will play Southern and LSU on Thursday, February 21 at Baton Rogue, LA in the Tigers’ next action.
