Tigers Drop Heartbreaker To Virginia Tech

Rome, Ga. — Clemson (8-14, 1-10 ACC) fell, 4-2, to sixth-seeded Virginia Tech (12-8, 6-6 ACC) in the first round of the ACC Tournament. The Hokies advance to face No. 3 North Carolina on Friday.

The Tigers dropped the doubles decision, falling on all three courts. The Hokie lead was extended to 2-0 before No. 111 Teodor Giusca notched a 6-2, 6-3 win at line four to put Clemson on the board. Virginia Tech came within range of victory  with a win at line six but Jorge Plans Gonzalez took Court 5, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4, to bring the Tigers back within one. Despite the effort, the Hokies won on Court 1 to take the match and advance to the next round of the tournament.

  • Teodor Giusca and Jorge Plans Gonzalez each extend their win streak to six and five matches, respectively
  • Teodor Giusca improves to 6-0 at line four this season
  • The Tigers fall to 11-13 all-time against Virginia Tech and 0-2 in the ACC Tournament
