BLACKSBURG, VA–Virginia Tech defeated Clemson 7-0 in a men’s Atlantic Coast Conference tennis match at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, VA Sunday afternoon.
With the win, Virginia Tech improves to 11-3 on the year and 4-1 in the ACC while the Tigers fall to 8-8 overall and 0-5 in the conference.
The Hokies swept the doubles matches and went up 1-0 heading into singles play.
At number five singles, Brandon Corace of Virginia Tech defeated Kevin Galloway 6-3, 6-2. The Hokies’ Patrick Daciek defeated Ike Belk at number six singles, 6-3, 6-3 to take a 3-0 advantage in the match.
The Hokies’ Nicolas Delgado de Robles took the number two singles match, with a 7-6, 6-1 victory over Gera Borychinskiy, clinching the match for Virginia Tech.
Sevastien Jacques defeated Clemson’s Kevin Fleck at number four singles 7-6, 6-2. Luke Somen of Virginia Tech won over Rok Bizjak of Clemson at number three singles, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
In the last match on the court, #59 ranked Yoann Re of Virginia Tech defeated the Tigers’ Carlos Alvarez 5-7, 6-0, 7-5 at number one singles.
The Tigers will play South Carolina in Columbia on Wednesday, March 25, at 2:00 p.m. in the Tigers’ next action. This will be the 100th meeting in the history of the series. South Carolina leads the overall series 58-39-2. The first match played was in 1925. The two teams split that year as South Carolina won at Clemson 4-2 on April 13, and Clemson won in Columbia by the same 4-2 score on April 18.
