Seventh-Ranked Duke Defeats Clemson 4-2

CLEMSON, SC–Mike Grella scored two goals in leading seventh-ranked Duke to a 4-2 win in an Atlantic Coast Conference men’s soccer match at Historic Riggs Field in Clemson, SC Friday night. Grella now has seven goals this season.

With the win, Duke improves to 7-2 overall, and 2-0 in the ACC. Clemson falls to 3-5-1 overall and 0-3 in league play.

Joe Germanese scored first for the Blue Devils in the 10th minute. The Tigers tied the game as David Bell scored with an assist by Mark Buchholz in the 23rd minute.

Grella scored in the 28th minute and the 39th minute giving Duke a 3-1 advantage right before the half.

Tate Parrish scored from an assist by Buchholz in the 60th minute to cut the Blue Devil lead to 3-2.

Paul Dudley gave Duke the insurance goal in the 76th minute as he scored his seventh goal of the season.

Clemson will play host to Georgia Southern on Tuesday, October 2, at 7:00 p.m. in the Tigers’ next action.
