No. 13 Tigers set for road test at No. 10 Notre Dame

Clemson, S.C. –The No. 13 Clemson men’s soccer team will take to the road for the first time this season as they face the No. 10 Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Friday night. The match will come after the Tigers spent the first four games playing at Historic Riggs Field. The two sides hold undefeated records heading into the match.

Series Notes

  • Friday night’s match between the two sides will be their ninth meeting. The Tigers have served as the away team twice, with three of the meetings coming at a neutral site.
  • The Tigers have been outscored by the Fighting Irish, 9-10.
  • The two sides first met on September 9, 2001 at Riggs Field, with the Tigers winning 4-0.
  • Both sides are ranked within the Top 25 of the United Soccer Coaches poll entering Friday’s match, making it the seventh time the two sides meet while each being ranked.
  • The last time the two sides met the Tigers fell to the Fighting Irish in the first round of the 2018 ACC tournament, 0-2.

Clemson Notes

  • Clemson improved their position by six spots in the United Soccer Coaches poll this past week, rising from No. 19 to No. 13.
  • The team has scored 21 goals through their first four games. That is the most goals in an opening four match since 1994, when the team netted 22 goals.
  • Clemson saw two players, Robbie Robinson and Kimarni Smith, each score a hat trick in their last match against USC Upstate. This feat hadn’t been accomplished since Gary Conner and David Fortner each scored three on November 5, 1986 against Mercer.
  • As a team, Clemson leads the country in 10 major categories.
  • Clemson has seven players nationally ranked within the top 20 across 10 different categories.
  • Six of the seven players are ranked multiple times: The six players are Kimarni Smith (7), Robbie Robinson (5), Grayson Barber (4), Tanner Dieterich (2), Phillip Mayaka (2) and Adrian Nunez (2).
  • Kimarni Smith is the leading scorer with five goals. Grayson Barber and Robbie Robinson are tied for the second most, each having four to their name.
  • This is the third time in ten years that the Tigers have started 4-0.

Notre Dame Notes

  • Notre Dame enters the match with a 3-0 record, hot off the heels of winning their home tournament, the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament.
  • Felicien Dumas is the leader for the Irish with 16 career assists.
  • Sophomore striker Jack Lynn has scored three goals in his first three matches of the season.
  • Ian Aschieris, Felicien Dumas and Jack Casey will wear the captain’s armbands for the Irish in 2019.
