Men’s Soccer to Host Clemson Invitational

The Clemson Men’s Soccer Invitational will start Friday afternoon at Historic Riggs Field. Teams that are participating include Gonzaga, Fairfield and Furman. On Friday, September 27, Furman will play Fairfield at 5:00 p.m. and Clemson will face Gonzaga at 7:30 p.m. On Sunday, September 29, Furman will play Gonzaga at 12:30 p.m. and Clemson will play Fairfield at 3:00 p.m. All of the action will be at Clemson’s Historic Riggs Field.

The Clemson men’s soccer team is ranked in three soccer polls in listings released Tuesday. The Tigers are ranked sixth by Soccer America and eighth by Soccertimes.com. In the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) the Clemson men are ranked 11th. The Clemson men’s soccer team has a 4-1-1 record overall, and is coming off a 3-2 win over ACC-foe N.C. State last Sunday afternoon.

The Clemson Invitational is one of the oldest soccer tournaments in America having been played 26 times since 1974. During that time, Clemson has a 38-11-3 record in the Invitational. Clemson has won the tournament a total of 15 times.
